The highly-awaited second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been rampant.
Season 1 introduces a large cast of characters residing in Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with songs about their clashes, and builds heated competitions and emotional bonds that drive fan obsession.
The community's expectations for season 2 differ greatly, but certain threads recur frequently: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the binding agreement constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner commented recently. "However I believe that me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply fans have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating happens this season.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible reveals, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a couple people make a prediction grid about season 2," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on Prime Video on October 29.
